Sculpture at Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park
We re-visit the Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This time, we focus on sculpture. There are more than 160 works in the permanent and temporary collections by many well known sculptors including Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore, Alexander Calder, and Jean Arp. In addition, many contemporary artists are represented. These include Beverly Pepper, Kenneth Snelson, Jonathan Borofsky, and Chakaia Booker. From small to gigantic, these works provide an excellent view of sculpture from the last three centuries.
Chihuly Exhibit at Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park
Take a tour of Dale Chihuly’s A New Eden exhibit at Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Chihuly’s glass art is installed throughout the grounds of the 132 acre garden and in two conservatories. Several thousand pieces of glass are featured in this huge exhibit, which closes on October 31, 2010.
Paul Henry’s Art Gallery
We visit Paul Henry’s Art Gallery in Hammond, Indiana. Dave Mueller, the gallery owner, details the history of the retail establishment that has been in the same location in downtown Hammond since 1902. We also visit with Greg Boyan, Executive Director of he Hammond INnovation Center, cartoon artist Eugene Mitchell and ceramic artist Michael Kaysen, the owner of Hammond’s SideCar Gallery.
Eiteljorg Musuem Indian Market & Festival
We visit the 18th Annual Eiteljorg Museum Indian Market & Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana and interview three Native artists, Amado M. Peña, Jr., Mark D. Stevens and Peter Boome. This annual event features more than 130 Native artists from more than 60 tribes.
Dallas Arts District
We visit the Dallas Arts District with Greg Brown, Program Director of the Dallas Center for Architecture. This urban district is larger than 60 acres and features museums, concert halls, theatres, commercial buildings, cathedrals, and historical buildings.
Chicago - Art in Public Spaces
Art and architecture surround the Art Institute of Chicago. We view many of Chicago’s well known artworks in Millennium Park and Grant Park. This just at a taste of the hundreds of artworks that are displayed in public spaces in Chicago.
